Indian Energy Exchange Ltd (IEX) has announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of the financial year 2026, ending June 30, 2026. The company reported a consolidated profit after tax (PAT) increase of 11.7%, driven by growth in electricity volumes and strong performance across various market segments including gas trading and international carbon exchange.

The results highlight steady operational expansion as the national energy sector navigated challenging climatic conditions. Electricity volume reached 37.5 Billion Units (BUs) in Q1 FY27, marking a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 15.9%. The consolidated PAT for Q1 FY'27 stood at Rs 134.8 Crore, up from Rs 120.7 Crore in the corresponding period of Q1 FY’26.

Consolidated Revenue for the quarter was Rs 202.8 Crore, showing a 10.1% rise compared to Rs 184.2 Crore recorded in Q1 FY'26. On the standalone front, Profit After Tax (PAT) reached Rs 126.7 Crore in Q1 FY’27, reflecting a 12.1% YoY increase from Rs 113.0 Crore reported in Q1 FY’26.

Market Conditions and Sector Performance​

The first quarter of the financial year saw peak power demand surge to an all-time high of 270.8 GW in May 2026, amidst persistent heatwaves and above-normal temperatures across India. Consequently, the country's total energy consumption reached 485.4 BUs in Q1 FY’27, a growth rate of 8.8% year over year.

In the fuel market segment, coal production stood at 233 MT during Q1 FY’27. Power plant coal inventory was reported at 17 days as of June 30, despite high summer demand. The increasing power demand contributed to the average price in the Day Ahead Market reaching Rs 5.1/unit, which represents a 15.7% increase compared to Q1 FY'26. Similarly, the average price in the Real Time Market was Rs 4.5/unit, up by 13.8% versus Q1 FY’26.

Gas and Carbon Exchange Updates​

The gas market segment saw significant activity through Indian Gas Exchange (IGX). IGX traded gas volumes amounting to 27.5 Million MMBtu in Q1 FY'27, representing an 11.9% growth over the previous year's quarter. For this period, IGX recorded a profit after tax of Rs 16.3 Crore, marking a 15.5% increase from Rs 14.1 Crore in Q1 FY’26.

Regarding international carbon trading, the International Carbon Exchange (ICX) issued 42.4 lakh I-RECs in Q1 FY'27, compared to 44.4 lakh I-RECs in Q1 FY’26. ICX generated revenue of Rs 2.1 crore in Q1 FY'27, achieving a 16.1% YoY growth from the Rs 1.8 crore recorded in Q1 FY'26.

Stake and Exchange Details​

IEX holds a 47.3% stake in IGX. As part of developments surrounding IGX’s proposed IPO, IEX is planning an offer for sale involving 22.3% equity shares to reduce its ownership stake to the PNGRB regulated level of 25%.

The company maintains a comprehensive platform providing services across electricity, renewable power, and energy saving certificate trading in India. IEX has been approved and regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission since June 27, 2008.

IEX Stock Price Movement​

Indian Energy Exchange Limited shares today slipped by 0.88% to close at ₹121.94, settling below the previous day's closing price. The stock traded within a range of ₹121.62 and ₹124.83 during the trading session.
