Washington, April 8: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has said he discussed strengthening India-US relations with President Donald Trump during a dinner meeting on Tuesday, signalling continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations.According to Gor, the discussions focused on building a “strong future” for bilateral ties, alongside broader global developments. The meeting took place at a time when the United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire after nearly six weeks of military conflict.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Gor described the interaction as significant, stating that the conversation covered President Trump’s determination to bring global stability, key milestones of his presidency, and the future trajectory of India-US relations.

The high-level meeting coincides with the arrival of India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Washington DC. His visit is aimed at reviewing bilateral trade and defence cooperation, while also addressing the evolving situation in West Asia.The visit assumes importance as both countries work toward stabilising ties following a period of strain. Relations had faced challenges after the United States imposed punitive tariffs on India, along with remarks by President Trump regarding his role in easing India-Pakistan military tensions last year.

Separately, Ambassador Gor also met US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to discuss advancing the commercial roadmap between the two countries. The discussions included expanding market access for American products in India, which represents a consumer base of 1.4 billion people.Gor further highlighted talks around a proposed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at linking India’s artificial intelligence scale with the US AI ecosystem. He also noted India’s expected participation in the upcoming SelectUSA Summit near Washington.
