India-US Economic Partnership Poised for Expansion, Says US Ambassador Sergio Gor

Strategic Alignment in Infrastructure, Energy, and Technology

New Delhi, March 29: Highlighting the growing convergence between India and the United States, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said the two nations are well-positioned to expand their strategic economic partnership in a mutually beneficial manner.

He noted that India’s expanding economy and large-scale infrastructure requirements align closely with American strengths in energy, advanced manufacturing, aviation, and digital infrastructure. According to Gor, this alignment creates a strong foundation for investment-led growth that benefits both countries.

Focus on Supply Chains and ‘Pax Silica’ Initiative

The ambassador emphasized that both nations are prioritizing resilient supply chains in key sectors such as semiconductors, critical minerals, and pharmaceuticals under the US-India COMPACT framework.

Welcoming India’s entry into the US-led Pax Silica initiative, Gor said the move would help secure supply networks amid rising global competition. He added that the initiative focuses on strengthening cooperation in critical mineral processing and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Trade Deal Seen as Anchor for Regional Integration

Speaking in an interview with Span magazine, Gor said the proposed trade deal between India and the US could act as a “powerful anchor” for broader economic integration across South Asia.

He also stated that the US is uniquely positioned to facilitate economic growth across South and Central Asia, citing ongoing investment engagements in countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in areas including energy, digital infrastructure, and critical minerals.

Defence Cooperation Remains a Key Pillar

Gor described defence and security collaboration as the most strategically significant aspect of India-US ties. He pointed to joint military exercises such as Malabar, Tiger Triumph, and Cope India as key contributors to strengthening interoperability between the two countries.

He also referenced cooperation under the Quad framework, stating that shared participation helps maintain aligned security interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the ambassador, sustained focus on diplomacy, defence exercises, and military sales will ensure continued strengthening of bilateral defence ties.

Vision for a Long-Term Strategic Partnership

Outlining his broader vision, Gor said he aims to transform India-US relations into a defining strategic partnership of the 21st century that delivers tangible benefits to both nations.

He added that the partnership should translate into real outcomes for citizens, including increased market access for American farmers, joint advancements in energy and medicine, and enhanced military coordination.

Strengthening Ties Amid Recent Challenges

The ambassador’s remarks come as New Delhi and Washington work to reinforce bilateral relations following a period of strain linked to US tariff policies.

Gor also underscored the link between economic cooperation and security, stating that both nations remain committed to addressing challenges such as terrorism, violent radicalisation, and transnational crime.

Foundation Built on Shared Values

Concluding his remarks, Gor said the India-US relationship is anchored in shared democratic values, mutual economic interests, and common security priorities, which will continue to shape the global order in the years ahead.
