India Diversifies Energy Imports to Ensure Stable Domestic Gas Supply Amid Geopolitical Tensions
New Delhi, March 10 – India is actively diversifying its energy import sources beyond West Asia to safeguard fuel supplies, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated on Tuesday, assuring that domestic gas availability remains stable despite rising geopolitical tensions in the region.
Speaking during an informal interaction with the media, Puri highlighted that India continues to receive energy imports through multiple sources and supply routes, helping maintain stability in the country’s fuel supply even amid ongoing regional conflicts.
“In today's informal interaction with members of the media fraternity, we discussed that India's energy imports are continuing to flow in from different sources and routes,” the minister said.
He further noted that the government has implemented measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel delivery for households and critical sectors. Domestic consumers are receiving full supplies of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG), while industrial users are currently receiving around 70-80 per cent of their gas requirements.
“We have taken steps to ensure that 100 per cent supply of CNG and PNG to domestic consumers is maintained, while other industries continue to get 70-80 per cent of their supplies, despite the war situation,” Puri said in a post on X.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing affordable and continuous energy to households across India.
“We are committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of affordable energy to our domestic consumers,” he said, adding, “There is no shortage for domestic consumers and there is no reason to panic.”
Puri emphasised that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking proactive measures to safeguard India’s energy security, ensuring citizens can rely on consistent gas supplies.
