New Delhi, April 6 Crystal Crop Protection Ltd launched a hybrid fodder seed targeting dairy farmers ahead of the monsoon season, as India's livestock sector struggles with a persistent shortage of high-quality feed.
The company stated that the 'Dairy Green' seed delivers high biomass yield, elevated crude protein content, and strong palatability, making it a cost-reduction tool for dairy farmers seeking to improve milk production.
"Dairy Green represents our best effort – a seed that consistently delivers more nutrition per acre, enabling dairy farmers to achieve higher milk yields while reducing their feed costs," said Satyender Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Seeds, at Crystal Crop Protection, in a statement.
Singh stated that India's livestock sector was at a turning point, with the challenge extending beyond milk productivity to the quality and availability of green fodder at the farm gate.
This launch is part of the company's expanded kharif 2026 portfolio, which also includes four existing fodder seed products: SX17, a sorghum-Sudan hybrid with medium maturity and regrowth capacity; SX17 Super, an enhanced variant with improved drought tolerance; SX21, a late-maturing variety designed for single-cut, high-volume harvests; and Star, an early-maturing dual-purpose sorghum used for both green and grain fodder.
India's livestock sector relies heavily on crop residues and common grazing lands to meet nutritional requirements – a model the company described as unsustainable. Crop residues, cultivated green fodder, and output from forests, pastures, and grazing lands remain the nation's principal fodder sources.
Crystal Crop Protection's '2026 Fodder Initiative' is focused on Haryana, Punjab, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan – states that account for a significant share of national fodder cultivation, spanning crops such as sorghum, maize, bajra, berseem, and lucerne.
