
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India to Invest ₹1,500 Crore in Rajasthan Plant Expansion
New Production Line at Tapukara to Boost Capacity by 2028
New Delhi, March 19: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Thursday announced an investment of around ₹1,500 crore to set up a third production line at its manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan.The new production line is scheduled to commence operations in 2028 and will add an annual production capacity of 6.7 lakh units. With this expansion, the total capacity of the Tapukara plant will increase to 2.01 million units per year.

The expansion is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people, contributing to economic growth in the region.Focus on Mobility Transformation and Supply Chain Strength
HMSI President and CEO Tsutsumu Otani said the company is aligning its growth strategy with India’s evolving mobility landscape.He stated that India is entering a new phase of mobility transformation, and HMSI remains committed to leading this transition with responsibility and purpose. Strengthening the production ecosystem at Tapukara, he noted, is a key step toward enhancing resilience, flexibility, and future readiness across the supply chain.
Flexible Manufacturing to Meet Market Demand
The company highlighted that the third production line will be highly flexible and capable of manufacturing commuter models of both scooters and motorcycles.According to HMSI, the expansion will enable it to respond more efficiently to market demand while continuing to deliver value to customers across segments.
Overall Capacity Expansion Plans by FY28
Including the Tapukara expansion and additional developments at other facilities, HMSI aims to increase its total annual production capacity from the current 6.25 million units to approximately 8 million units by FY28.At present, the company operates four manufacturing plants across India.
Parallel Expansion at Gujarat Facility
HMSI is also expanding its production footprint in Gujarat. As announced in May 2025, the company is adding a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Ahmedabad district. This new line is expected to become operational in 2027 and is progressing as planned.Tapukara Plant’s Growth Journey
The Tapukara facility began operations in July 2011 with an initial annual capacity of 0.6 million units. This was doubled to 1.2 million units by March 2012.Since 2023, the company has been implementing automation in machining and enhancing production efficiency technologies. The plant’s current annual capacity stands at 1.3 million units.
HMSI plans to further improve efficiency, targeting a capacity of 1.34 million units at the facility by FY26.
