Eternal Poised for Massive Inflow as MSCI India Rejig Drives $2.3 Billion Passive Capital Interest

The upcoming rebalancing of the MSCI India Standard Index is set to funnel billions into Indian equities, according to reports from Nuvama and JM Financial. The index rejig, which will be announced next month with changes taking effect from August 31 onwards, has generated significant focus among market participants.

Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research has named several stocks as high-conviction inclusions due to expected weight increases in the MSCI India Standard Index. These movements are anticipated to significantly boost the passive inflow into the Indian market.

Eternal Eyes Highest Inflow Amid Weight Increase

Food delivery and quick commerce giant Eternal is set to see $648 million in inflows, which Nuvama attributes to an anticipated increase in its weightage within the MSCI India Standard index. This makes it one of the primary beneficiaries of the upcoming rejig.

Other firms expected to benefit include Laurus Labs and Adani Energy Solutions. Laurus Labs is projected to attract $518 million due to likely inclusion of 32 million shares into the index next month. Similarly, Adani Energy Solutions is expected to see inflows amounting to $324 million.

Key Inclusions and Borderline Pharma Giant Biocon

Nuvama has also highlighted two consumer-facing names, Lenskart and Groww-parent Billionbrains Garage Ventures, both slated for inclusion with projected inflows of $272 million and $260 million respectively. These inclusions underscore the focus on digital and retail growth within the index mechanism.

The fate of pharma major Biocon remains conditional, placing it in a borderline category according to Nuvama. The company is expected to be included only if its market price crosses Rs 447 apiece, compared to its previous close of Rs 436.50 on NSE. Should this condition be met, the stock is projected to bring $262 million in inflows.

Firms Facing Outflows as MSCI Index Rebalances

The index rejig will also lead to significant outflows for several established players. Nuvama anticipates Balkrishna Industries to face the largest outflow at $162 million. This will be followed by SBI Card and Payment, expected to see $141 million in outflows, and Astral with $133 million.

These firms have seen varied performance during this period; for example, these stocks reported falls ranging from 2% to 25% in 2026 so far.

Aggregate Passive Inflow Estimated at $2.3 Billion

Bringing together the various probabilities, both Nuvama and JM Financial maintain a strong bullish outlook on the overall outcome of the MSCI India Standard Index rejig.

The aggregate assessment suggests that high-probability inclusions across sectors could drive net passive inflows into Indian stocks totaling approximately $2.3 billion. This inflow is supported by companies like Adani Green Energy, along with Groww and Laurus Labs being key migration candidates for inclusion.
