Defence Boom Fuels India Investment: Nuvama Stakes ₹200 Cr in Val-Met Engineering to Capture Global Aerospace Surge

Nuvama Private Equity has strategically invested ₹200 crore for a minority stake in Val-Met Engineering. This capital infusion targets scaling the Chennai-based firm, a specialized supplier for the aerospace and defence sectors. The investment underscores a belief in India's growing stature as a global manufacturing hub.

The move is fueled by the global pivot towards self-reliant production chains. Pranav Parikh, managing partner and head of private equity at Nuvama Asset Management, noted that sectors like aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing are major beneficiaries of this geopolitical shift.

Tapping Global Supply Chain Shifts for Growth

Global conflicts and geopolitical uncertainties have elevated domestic self-sufficiency to a critical imperative. This trend directly benefits specialized manufacturers like Val-Met Engineering.

The investment aims to capitalize on global aerospace leaders relocating production and assembly hubs to India. Val-Met is positioned as a vital link in the supply chains of high-growth sectors, including defence and precision manufacturing.

Parikh stated that the objective is to evolve the business beyond an India-focused play. The strategy involves eyeing acquisitions in Europe and building partnerships across Southeast Asia to attain global scale.

Valuation and Growth Projections for Key Industries

The private equity firm highlighted the inherent profitability of the targeted sector. Val-Met boasts an EBITDA margin exceeding 20%.

Nuvama anticipates robust growth for the company, projecting a CAGR of over 30%+ in revenue over the next few years. This expectation is underpinned by the firm's strong order book and increased opportunities stemming from India's industrial growth.

The Nuvama Crossover Opportunities Fund's investment will enhance Val-Met's infrastructure. This includes scaling its sourcing network, inventory levels, and technological backbone.

Nuvama's Broader Financial Ecosystem and Strategy

The Nuvama Group oversees a substantial client asset base, amounting to ₹ 4.61 trillion as of Q3 FY26. Its clientele comprises over 1.3 million affluent and high-net-worth individuals.

Beyond private equity in manufacturing, the firm maintains a diverse investment portfolio. It is also active in sectors such as consumer, fintech, BFSI, and healthcare.

The fund's current institutional round represents an early milestone. Historically, the firm relied on domestic backing, though its evolution points toward incorporating global institutional capital.

The fund's larger, upcoming initiatives are set to explore varied pools of capital. Nuvama has previously invested in prominent industry leaders, including MedPlus, the National Stock Exchange (NSE), and Amber.
