Kolkata, January 1 – Coal India Limited (CIL) reported a mixed performance in coal production and offtake for December 2025 and the April to December 2025 period, with month-on-month strength offset by a marginal decline on a cumulative basis.December 2025 Performance
Coal India’s total coal production in December 2025 stood at 75.7 million tonnes, marking a 4.6 percent increase compared with 72.4 million tonnes produced in December 2024. The improvement was largely supported by stronger output from South Eastern Coalfields Limited and stable performance at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.Total coal offtake during the month came in at 64.9 million tonnes, lower than 68.5 million tonnes recorded in the same month last year, reflecting a 5.2 percent decline year-on-year.
April–December 2025 Cumulative Performance
For the nine-month period ended December 2025, Coal India’s cumulative coal production stood at 529.2 million tonnes, compared with 543.4 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year, translating into a 2.6 percent decline.Cumulative offtake during April–December 2025 was reported at 544.7 million tonnes, down from 557.0 million tonnes in the year-ago period, a 2.2 percent contraction.
Subsidiary-wise Trends
South Eastern Coalfields Limited delivered a notable performance, with December production rising sharply to 18.4 million tonnes from 14.3 million tonnes a year ago, while its cumulative output for the nine-month period increased to 119.0 million tonnes, up 6.7 percent year-on-year.In contrast, subsidiaries such as Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Western Coalfields Limited, and Central Coalfields Limited reported year-on-year declines in cumulative production and offtake during the April–December period.
