
Coal India Limited, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Partner on Gasification Project
Coal India Limited (CIL) and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Private Limited (AMNS) have executed a Non-Binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on the exploration of a significant industrial collaboration. The agreement was formalized on 12.08.2026.Under the MoU, both companies are set to explore the possibility of utilizing synthetic gas syn-gas produced from a coal gasification facility. This facility is proposed by CIL and will be established adjacent to or at the AMNS Paradip Pellet Plant, incorporating Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).
The initial scope defined by this Non-Binding MoU involves conducting a comprehensive assessment of the project's requirements. The primary focus areas include evaluating the technical aspects, commercial viability, and implementation modalities of the proposed project. To assess the overall feasibility of the venture, the partnership will facilitate the preparation of a Preliminary Feasibility Report (PFR).
