Buddha Relics Arrive in Mongolia for Exhibition, Amid Broader Updates in Indian Finance and Culture

Ulaanbaatar, May 31 — The sacred relics of Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Mahamoggallana, the chief disciples of Lord Buddha, arrived in Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar, on an Indian Air Force IL-76 'Gajraj' aircraft. The relics are slated for a special public exposition beginning on Buddha Purnima at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery.

The relics, which are highly revered throughout the Buddhist world for their wisdom and dedication to the Dhamma, were sourced from the historic Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh. The exposition will run from May 31 to June 10, allowing devotees and visitors to pay homage.

The successful transport underscores a commitment to strengthening cultural and spiritual relations between India and Mongolia. The initiative follows a previous display of sacred Buddha relics in Mongolia in 2022. The Sanchi Stupa complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989, is a major pilgrimage center and a symbol of India's rich spiritual heritage.
