AU Small Finance Bank's Profit Surges 37% as Net Interest Income Jumps, Signaling Strong Operational Momentum​

AU Small Finance Bank is set to be a key stock focus following its release of robust Q1 results for the April-June quarter. The private lending institution reported a significant 37% year-on-year rise in net profit, which reached ₹ 796 crore compared to ₹ 581 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The bank's performance was driven by its steady growth in core banking metrics. Net interest income (NII) jumped 31.8% YoY, climbing to ₹ 2,695.5 crore from ₹ 2,044.7 crore, as stated in the regulatory filing. This strong operational improvement underscores the institution's widening net interest margin.

Financial Highlights and Profitability Surge​

The Q1 results reflect improved profitability across various levels of operation at AU Small Finance Bank. Pre-provisioning operating profit (PPoP) saw a 9% YoY increase, reaching ₹ 1,435 crore. Furthermore, the core PPoP, which excludes treasury income, jumped substantially by 41% YoY to ₹ 1,426 crore.

The bank's deposit base also demonstrated impressive growth. Total deposits expanded by 24% YoY and 3% QoQ, reaching a substantial figure of ₹ 1,57,727 crore. CASA deposits were particularly strong, growing 22% YoY and 5% QoQ, bringing the CASA ratio to 29%.

Loan Growth Accelerates Amid Controlled Risk Management​

The bank successfully grew its Gross loan portfolio by 23% YoY and 3% QoQ, with the total portfolio reaching ₹ 1,44,250 crore. Loan disbursements saw an even faster rate of growth, rising approximately 42% YoY.

Business segment performance remained strong. Secured businesses, which encompass retail and commercial loans, grew 25% YoY and 4% QoQ. Unsecured business also showed healthy expansion, increasing by 11% YoY and 5% QoQ. Meanwhile, loan slippages declined by 22% YoY to ₹ 798 crore.

Assessing Asset Quality and Provisioning Trends​

The lender managed asset quality with mixed results across short-term metrics. Gross NPA increased to 2.10% in Q1, up from 2.03% in the previous quarter. Net NPA also saw a marginal increase to 0.76% from 0.74% QoQ.

However, when viewed year-to-date, asset quality showed improvement. Gross NPA improved from 2.47% in the comparable prior quarter, and net NPA declined from 0.88% in that earlier period. Provisions for bad loans fell to ₹ 371.5 crore during the quarter, down from ₹ 533.3 crore a year ago.

Management Strength Announced for Future Growth​

Complementing the financial achievements, AU Small Finance Bank announced a key management elevation. Yogesh Jain, currently the Chief Operating Officer, has been promoted to Deputy CEO effective July 25, 2026. This move follows a recommendation from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

The leadership change is intended to bolster the bank's structure as its operations continue to expand. Mr Jain will remain under the purview of the MD & CEO and will be categorized as a Senior Management Personnel (SMP) of the bank. The institution also set July 31, 2026 as the record date for shareholders eligible for the final dividend at the Annual General Meeting.
