Aragen Life Sciences to Surge in Market with ₹3,500 Crore IPO as Global CDMO Demand Explodes

Aragen Life Sciences is gearing up for a major market entry, having announced plans to file its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) soon. The proposed Initial Public Offering (IPO) is set to raise substantial capital, potentially reaching up to ₹3,500 crore. This filing comes as the company aims to capitalize on the surging global demand for outsourced drug research and manufacturing services.

IPO Structure and Financial Objectives

The planned offering will consist of a fresh issue of shares combined with an Offer For Sale (OFS) by existing shareholders. The capital raised through this IPO is earmarked primarily for repaying borrowings and funding critical capital expenditure. These funds are needed to fuel continued growth projects as Aragen expands its research capabilities.

Several major financial institutions have been appointed to manage the complex offering. Axis Capital, Citigroup Global Markets India, JM Financial, and Goldman Sachs (India) Securities serve as the book-running lead managers for the upcoming IPO. The final size and precise structure of the offering may be adjusted before the official DRHP is filed.

Aragen’s Role in Drug Discovery Ecosystem

Aragen operates as a specialized contract research development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO). Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Hyderabad, the company provides comprehensive services across various stages of drug discovery and commercial manufacturing. Its technical capabilities include medicinal chemistry, process research, biology, analytical services, custom synthesis, and API manufacturing.

The firm maintains a broad client base, serving over 400 customers from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, agrochemical, and animal-health industries. Aragen operates facilities across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Visakhapatnam in India. Additionally, it maintains a biologics research campus located in Morgan Hill, California.

Investment Backing and Market Potential

Aragen boasts strong backing from industry giants including Goldman Sachs and the private equity firm Quadria Capital. In January 2025, Quadria invested $100 million for a minority stake at an approximate valuation of $1.4 billion through a fresh capital infusion. Earlier, in August 2025, Avendus Future Leaders Fund partnered with SBI Life Insurance to invest ₹300 crore into Aragen.

This IPO plan is set against the backdrop of massive projected growth in India’s Contract Research and Development Manufacturing Organisation (CRDMO) market. A Boston Consulting Group-IPSO report suggests this domestic market could expand significantly, potentially growing from $3 to $3.5 billion currently. Experts cite cost advantages and strong small-molecule expertise as key drivers for this future expansion.
