Antony Waste Handling Cell Reports Operational Growth and Loan Refinancing Amid Plant Calamity
Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited reported steady operational growth for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, achieving a core revenue increase of approximately 7%. The company also announced the successful refinancing of its subsidiary's term loan while coping with a natural calamity that affected the Pimpri Chinchwad Waste-to-Energy (WtE) facility. The operational updates show continued ramp-up in contracts and improved throughput across project locations, driving growth in processed materials. Collection and Transportation (C&T) volumes grew by 5.1% year-on-year (YoY) to approximately 0.55 million tonnes. Processing activity saw a rise of 5.5% YoY, reaching about 0.85 million tonnes. Refinancing Lowers Debt Cost for WtE Asset
In a strategic move to optimize its capital structure for the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) business, the company successfully refinanced the term loan of Antony Lara Renewable Energy Private Limited. This refinancing was executed at a significantly lower rate, reducing the interest rate from 10.25% per annum to 8.25% per annum. This reduction amounts to 200 basis points and is expected to improve overall returns from the WtE asset, enhance free cash flow generation, and lower the interest burden at the subsidiary level.
Natural Calamity Strikes PCMC Waste-to-Energy Plant
The operational updates were followed by a severe event on July 8, 2026, when the PCMC WtE Facility was affected by a force majeure event. Exceptionally heavy and incessant monsoon rainfall caused thousands of tonnes of municipal waste accumulated in a legacy landfill outside the facility's control to collapse onto the site, resulting in structural damage to the administrative building where 23 employees were present.Rescue operations involving agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Army mobilized quickly. The company tragically confirmed the loss of nine lives.
In response to the disaster, the Company has committed several support measures to the bereaved families:
1. The Company will cover all funeral and last rites expenses according to each family’s customs and wishes.
2. Financial assistance of ₹ 25,00,000 per deceased employee will be provided, comprising ex-gratia support and applicable insurance benefits.
3. The company is committed to offering a suitable employment position at the facility to an immediate family member of each deceased employee.
4. Where no adult family member can take up employment, the Company will bear the full educational expenses of the minor children of the family.
5. Medical coverage and necessary support will be extended to all injured employees for treatment and recovery.
Despite the disaster, the MRF and composting plant are now fully operational, allowing the company to receive and process waste from PCMC. The company stated that further updates on these efforts will be provided at the end of every quarter throughout the current financial year.
