India Emerges as Key Market for Claude.ai

American artificial intelligence firm Anthropic announced on Monday that it has opened a new office in Bengaluru, marking its second location in Asia after Tokyo. The company said the India office will focus on hiring local talent across a broad spectrum of roles as it deepens its footprint in one of its fastest-growing markets.

India has emerged as the second-largest market for Claude.ai. According to the company, nearly half of Claude usage in the country involves computer and mathematical tasks, including building applications and shipping production software. The trend highlights strong adoption among developers and technology professionals.

Enterprise, Education and Agriculture Partnerships Announced

Anthropic said it is rolling out partnerships across enterprise, education, and agriculture sectors as part of its expanding India strategy.

Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India at Anthropic, described the country as one of the most promising global opportunities for responsible AI deployment.

She said India combines exceptional technical talent, scalable digital infrastructure, and a strong record of leveraging technology to improve lives, positioning it as a priority market for long-term growth.

Education Push Through Pratham and EdTech Collaborations

Among its key partnerships, Anthropic highlighted its collaboration with Pratham, an education nonprofit. Pratham’s Anytime Testing Machine, powered by Claude, is currently being piloted with 1,500 students across 20 schools. The initiative is expected to expand to 100 schools by the end of 2026.

The Anytime Testing Machine aims to create flexible and credible learning and certification pathways by helping students practice for exams. Madhav Chavan, Co-Founder and CEO of Pratham, said AI tools like Claude offer new ways to reach students who lack access to advanced educational resources.

Anthropic is also collaborating with Central Square Foundation to enhance the use of EdTech and AI in educating children from underserved communities.

Support for Judicial Access and Public Services

The company said it is supporting Adalat AI, which is set to launch with a national WhatsApp helpline to improve access to judicial services. The platform will provide instant case updates along with translation, document summarization, and interactive querying of legal documents in native Indian languages.

This initiative is aimed at expanding access to court-related information and simplifying legal processes through AI-enabled tools.

Revenue Growth and Open Source Contribution

Anthropic said its India revenue has doubled since October 2025, underscoring the accelerating demand for its AI solutions in the country.

The company also noted that it created the Model Context Protocol, described as a universal open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. It recently donated the protocol to the Linux Foundation, reinforcing its push toward broader AI interoperability and open standards.

With a new Bengaluru base, expanding sectoral partnerships, and rising developer adoption, Anthropic is positioning India as a central pillar in its Asia growth strategy.
