Amaravati, March 18: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the approval for the transfer of nearly 400 acres of salt land at the Naupada Salt Factory to the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) for the development of the Mulapeta Port.The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has cleared the transfer of 385.24 acres, marking a key step in strengthening the state’s port infrastructure. Naidu highlighted the significance of the move, stating that it would accelerate the development of Mulapeta Port and enhance connectivity for smoother and more efficient operations.
Government Push Strengthens Port Development Plans
In a post shared late Tuesday, the Chief Minister described the decision as a major boost driven by coordinated efforts between the central and state governments. He noted that the land transfer would support the port’s expansion and improve its operational capabilities.Naidu also extended his thanks to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal for his continued support in advancing the project.
Strategic Location and Capacity of Mulapeta Port
Located in Srikakulam district, Mulapeta Port is positioned to serve not only Andhra Pradesh but also nearby regions including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and southern parts of Odisha.The port features a natural deep draft of 20 metres and lies within four kilometres of the shoreline, enabling it to handle large vessels of up to 2 lakh deadweight tonnage. It is well connected to National Highway 16 and the railway network, enhancing its logistics capabilities.
Cargo Handling and Future Potential
Mulapeta Port is designed with four berths and is expected to handle up to 15 million tonnes of cargo annually.
