Mr. Vinay M. Tonse possesses extensive experience in the banking sector. Prior to this appointment, he served as Managing Director (Retail Business and Operations) at State Bank of India (SBI) from November 2023 till November 2025. During his tenure at SBI, he oversaw the entire domestic network, which comprised nearly 23,000 branches and an employee strength of around 2,33,426. The business levels managed reached Rs. 76 lac crore as of November 30, 2025.Mr. Tonse holds a B.com from St. Joseph College of Commerce, Bangalore, and a Master's in Commerce from Bangalore University. His career commenced at SBI in 1988 as a Probationary Officer, during which time he served in various geographical locations both in India and abroad, managing several business functions. His expertise spans Corporate Credit, International Banking, Treasury Operations, Equity Portfolio Management, Retail Banking, Training, and Agriculture and Rural Banking.
Additional assignments held by Mr. Tonse include serving as Managing Director & CEO of SBI Mutual Funds (June 2020 to December 2022), and previously heading the Chennai Circle of SBI as Chief General Manager (June 2018 to June 2020). His earlier roles at SBI also involved positions such as:
