US Democrats Slam Donald Trump’s ‘State of the Union’ Speech as ‘Disconnected From Reality’

Senior Democrats have sharply criticized US President Donald Trump over his latest “State of the Union” address, calling the unusually long speech “delusional” and out of touch with the struggles faced by ordinary Americans.

The annual address, delivered before a joint session of the United States Congress, saw Trump defend his administration’s record and lay out his priorities for the future during his second term in office. However, leading Democratic lawmakers argued that the speech painted a picture of the country that does not reflect everyday realities.

Chuck Schumer Says Speech ‘Worlds Apart’ From Reality

Top Democratic senator Chuck Schumer accused the president of presenting a distorted version of the nation’s condition.

“Americans have never seen a ‘State of the Union’ speech so disconnected from reality. The president's rhetoric and the country's reality are worlds apart,” Schumer said. He added that Trump “presented a delusional picture of America that few working Americans would recognize.”

Schumer’s remarks underscore growing partisan tensions as Democrats question the administration’s portrayal of economic and social conditions.

Democrats Skip Address, Hold Alternative Event

Around 30 elected Democrats chose not to attend the president’s address to Congress. Instead, they participated in a separate event titled the “People’s ‘State of the Union.’”

Among them was Senator Chris Murphy, who addressed a crowd gathered in front of the United States Capitol ahead of Trump’s speech.

“The president mocks this institution, and he does not deserve an audience,” Murphy told attendees, referring to the congressional chamber where the address was delivered.

Trump Defends Record in Second Term

President Trump used the platform to highlight his administration’s achievements and outline policy goals for the coming year. The “State of the Union” speech traditionally serves as a key moment for the White House to present its legislative agenda and shape the national political narrative.

This year’s address, however, unfolded against a backdrop of visible Democratic dissent, with some lawmakers opting for public protest rather than attendance inside the Capitol chamber.

The contrasting responses reflect deep political divisions as the president continues his second term and lawmakers debate the direction of the country.
