Hyundai Motor and Kia Post Record US Sales in February on Strong SUV and Hybrid Demand

Combined US Vehicle Sales Rise 5 Percent Year on Year

Seoul, March 4: Hyundai Motor and Kia reported record vehicle sales in the United States for February, driven by sustained demand for sport utility vehicles and hybrid models.

The two South Korean automakers sold a combined 137,412 vehicles in the US market last month, marking a 5 percent increase compared with the same period a year earlier. Both companies achieved their highest ever sales figures for the month of February.

Hyundai Motor Sales Climb 5.7 Percent Led by SUV Portfolio

Hyundai Motor, including its luxury brand Genesis, recorded sales of 71,407 units in February, reflecting a 5.7 percent year on year rise.

The growth was primarily fueled by strong demand for midsize and large SUVs. Sales of the Palisade increased 28.4 percent to 10,025 units, while the Santa Fe posted an 18.6 percent rise to 11,344 units, underscoring the brand’s continued strength in the SUV segment.

Kia Sales Advance 4.3 Percent with Strong Model Gains

Kia reported February sales of 66,005 units in the United States, up 4.3 percent from a year earlier, also marking its highest ever sales for the month.

The company’s performance was supported by significant gains across key models. Telluride SUV sales surged 68.7 percent to 13,198 units. The K5 sedan also saw a sharp increase of 60.6 percent, reaching 13,198 units during the month.

EV Sales Decline Amid Tariff and Subsidy Impact

Despite overall growth, combined electric vehicle sales for Hyundai Motor and Kia declined 21.9 percent year on year to 5,576 units in February. The drop reflects the continued impact of Washington’s auto tariffs and the rollback of related subsidies.

January Also Marked Record Performance in US Market

The strong February results followed record vehicle sales in January as well. The two automakers sold a combined 125,296 vehicles in the US market in January, up 7.7 percent from a year earlier.

Hyundai Motor’s January growth was supported by robust SUV sales. Palisade sales climbed 28.7 percent to 8,604 units, while the Kona compact SUV recorded a 21.9 percent increase to 5,321 units.

Kia’s January sales were driven by notable gains in core models. Seltos compact SUV sales spiked 85.8 percent to 5,278 units, and Carnival minivan sales surged 60.4 percent to 5,879 units.

The back to back record performances highlight the continued momentum of Hyundai Motor and Kia in the US automotive market, particularly in the SUV and hybrid segments.
