New Delhi, February 17: Space technology startup Pixxel Space has announced a strategic partnership with French electric propulsion provider Exotrail to support the control and operation of its advanced satellites in orbit. The announcement comes at the start of the India France Innovation Year, launched by Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai.

Exotrail’s Spaceware Systems to Power Upcoming Satellite Deployments

Under the agreement, Pixxel will integrate Exotrail’s spaceware electric propulsion systems into its upcoming satellite deployments, with deliveries scheduled through 2027. These systems will play a critical role in supporting Pixxel’s expanding Earth Observation constellation and its broader space infrastructure roadmap.

The Bengaluru-based startup builds advanced satellites and operates what it describes as the world’s highest resolution commercial hyperspectral satellite constellation. The integration of Exotrail’s propulsion technology is expected to enhance the performance and operational flexibility of these platforms.

Focus on Scalable and Efficient Space Systems

Pixxel Space Founder and CEO Awais Ahmed said that partnering with Exotrail strengthens the company’s roadmap for scalable and efficient space systems, while also reflecting deeper collaboration between the Indian and French space ecosystems.

Exotrail’s spaceware portfolio includes modular Hall Effect electric propulsion systems that have been space proven and are designed for satellites ranging from 10 to 1,000 kg. The compact propulsion system selected by Pixxel allows the company to prioritize advanced payload design without compromising on satellite performance.

Enhancing Satellite Deployment and Lifecycle Management

According to Pixxel, Exotrail’s systems bring significant in orbit firing hours and cycle heritage, with deployments across multiple missions worldwide. The thrust efficiency and modular architecture are designed to support improved satellite deployment strategies, operational flexibility, and responsible end of life management.

Pixxel has also secured a government grant to build satellites for the Indian Air Force and is developing India’s first privately owned national Earth observation system, reinforcing its role in the country’s growing space sector.

India France Space Cooperation Gains Momentum

Space remains a key pillar of cooperation between France and India. The partnership between Pixxel and Exotrail underscores the increasing role of private space companies in strengthening bilateral ties and advancing commercial Earth observation capabilities.

Jean Luc Maria, CEO at Exotrail, said the collaboration with Pixxel validates the spaceware systems as a world class propulsion offering tailored to the dynamic Earth observation market and growing space infrastructure.
