He is a 1998 batch officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) and holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management with a specialization in Human Resource from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
Prior to his role at BHEL, Thakur held various leadership positions within Indian Railways and CPSUs, including Chairman, Railway Recruitment Cell, Western Railway. He also served as the head of the HR department at Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL).
During his tenure at BHEL, Thakur spearheaded initiatives to enhance HR, LAW & HSE functions, including restructuring and the introduction of a Uniform Incentive Scheme.
