NHPC to Construct 1720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an investment of ₹26,069.50 Crore for the construction of the 1720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project (HEP) located in Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The projected completion timeline for the entire project is 96 months.The installed capacity of the Kamala HEP is set at 1720 MW, comprising 8 x 210 MW units and 1 x 40 MW unit. This facility is anticipated to generate 6870 MUs of energy annually.
The implementation of the project will be managed through a Joint Venture Company involving NHPC Limited and the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
Financial support for the project involves several components:
- The Govt. of India will extend ₹4,743.98 crore as budgetary support earmarked for the flood moderation component.
- An additional ₹1,340 crore in budgetary support is allocated for enabling infrastructure, which includes the construction of roads, bridges, and associated transmission systems.
- The State will contribute Central Financial Assistance of ₹750 crore towards the equity share of the State.
