Jammu/Srinagar, March 29Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has inaugurated six new passenger-focused initiatives at Jammu and Srinagar airports, aimed at improving convenience, accessibility, affordability, and overall travel experience.
The newly introduced facilities include Digi Yatra, Udan Yatri Cafe, Flybrary, AVSAR retail spaces, a dedicated kids play area, and free high-speed Wi-Fi, according to an official statement.
Digi Yatra Introduces Seamless Facial Recognition Travel
A key highlight of the launch is Digi Yatra, a system powered by Facial Recognition Technology that enables a paperless and contactless journey through airports.With this initiative, passengers can move through entry gates, security checkpoints, and boarding areas using their facial identity as a boarding pass, reducing the need for physical documents and streamlining airport processes.
Udan Yatri Cafe Offers Affordable Food Options
The Udan Yatri Cafe has been introduced as a budget-friendly food outlet to address concerns around high airport food prices.Passengers can access basic refreshments at affordable rates, including water and tea priced at Rs 10, and coffee, sweets, and samosas available at Rs 20.
Srinagar Airport Expansion Eases Passenger Congestion
At Srinagar Airport, an extended terminal section has been inaugurated, including a 650 square metre addition to the security hold area.This expansion is expected to significantly reduce congestion and enhance passenger comfort within the terminal.
Flybrary and AVSAR Promote Community and Local Economy
The Flybrary initiative introduces a community-based book-sharing concept aimed at encouraging reading and knowledge exchange among travellers. At Jammu Airport, this initiative is being implemented jointly by the Airports Authority of India and the Rotary Club Jammu Tawi.Meanwhile, AVSAR, which stands for Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region, provides retail space within airports for local artisans and Self-Help Groups. The initiative offers subsidized rental opportunities and direct market access for showcasing regional handicrafts and indigenous products.
Free Wi-Fi and Modern Amenities Strengthen Passenger Services
Passengers will also benefit from free high-speed Wi-Fi for up to four hours, along with a dedicated kids play area to improve family travel experiences.The Srinagar Airport confirmed the rollout on social media, noting that the facilities were inaugurated virtually from Rajkot. The minister launched all initiatives via video conferencing.
These developments mark a step towards creating a more seamless, efficient, and passenger-friendly airport experience across the region.
