Civil Aviation Ministry Monitors West Asia Conflict Impact on Flight Operations

New Delhi, March 23 – The Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Monday that the financial and operational implications of the West Asia conflict on flight operations are evolving, and appropriate measures are being implemented in consultation with airlines and other stakeholders.

The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which began on February 28, has significantly affected airline operations in and through the West Asia region.

Flight Operations and Safety Measures

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told the Rajya Sabha that the ministry is closely monitoring the closure of the West Asian air corridor and its impact on flights.

  • Financial implications are being assessed continuously, with measures coordinated with airlines and stakeholders.
  • The ministry is monitoring airfares to ensure ticket prices remain reasonable and prevent undue price surges.
  • The DGCA has established a robust monitoring mechanism for high-risk airspace, including advisories, NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), and real-time risk assessments in coordination with international agencies.
As of March 17, 2026, 721 scheduled flights were operated by Indian carriers, transporting 1,19,458 passengers, with Mumbai and Ahmedabad among the landing points.

Assistance to Indian Nationals

The ministry highlighted efforts by Indian missions in the region:
  • The Indian Mission in Riyadh, in coordination with missions in Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and UAE, facilitated the transit of over 3,500 people through Saudi Arabia with local support.
  • The Mission in Doha (Qatar) assisted with passenger registration, limited flight coordination, and emergency accommodations.
  • The Mission in Abu Dhabi helped nationals by securing exemptions from visa overstay fines in coordination with local authorities.
