Indian LPG Carriers Safely Transit Gulf, Head Towards Mumbai and Mangalore​

BW TYR and BW ELM Carry 94,000 Metric Tonnes of LPG to India​

New Delhi, March 29: Two Indian LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, have safely navigated the Gulf region and are currently en route to Indian ports, carrying a combined cargo of approximately 94,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways on Sunday, BW TYR is heading towards Mumbai and is expected to arrive on March 31. BW ELM is bound for New Mangalore, with its arrival scheduled for April 1.

No Incidents Reported, Seafarers Safe in Gulf Region​

The government confirmed that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of Indian vessels and crew operating in the region. No incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported in the past 24 hours, and all Indian seafarers remain safe.

Currently, 18 Indian-flagged vessels with a total of 485 Indian seafarers are present in the western Persian Gulf. The Directorate General of Shipping is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with ship owners, recruitment and placement service license agencies, and Indian missions abroad.

DG Shipping Control Room Handles Thousands of Queries​

The DG Shipping control room continues to operate round the clock, providing support and coordination. Since its activation, it has handled 4,523 calls and 8,985 emails. In the last 24 hours alone, 92 calls and 120 emails were received.

Authorities have also facilitated the safe return of more than 942 Indian seafarers so far, including four repatriations in the past 24 hours.

Port Operations Across India Remain Smooth​

Port activities across the country continue without disruption. Maritime Boards from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry have confirmed normal operations with no congestion reported.

The Ministry of Ports and Shipping is maintaining close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and other maritime stakeholders to ensure seamless operations and the welfare of seafarers.

Government Maintains High Alert on Gulf Situation​

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that it is closely monitoring developments in the Gulf and West Asia region, prioritizing the safety and well-being of Indian nationals.

A dedicated control room remains operational to assist Indian citizens and their families, with coordination ongoing with States and Union Territories. Indian missions in the region are functioning round the clock, operating helplines, issuing regular advisories, and staying engaged with local authorities.

Ongoing assistance is being provided to seafarers, students, stranded nationals, and short-term visitors, including visa, consular, and logistical support, the statement added.
