India, EU Strengthen EV Charging Collaboration to Boost Sustainable Mobility

India-EU Workshop Focuses on Interoperable and Future-Ready EV Ecosystems

New Delhi, March 18: Policymakers and industry stakeholders from India and the European Union are intensifying collaboration in research, innovation, standards, and testing to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and connected mobility systems, according to an official statement.

The growing partnership is being driven under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), with a strong emphasis on green and clean energy technologies. These efforts are contributing to the development of sustainable mobility solutions, resilient innovation ecosystems, and future-ready industrial partnerships between the two regions.

Second India-EU EV Charging Workshop Held in Italy

As part of this initiative, the second India-EU Workshop on Electric Vehicle charging technologies was conducted at the Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, from March 15 to March 17.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. It was held in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre, the Automotive Research Association of India, and the EU Delegation to India.

Key Discussions on Advanced EV Charging Technologies

The event brought together policymakers, technical experts, standards organizations, testing and research institutions, and industry representatives from both India and the EU. Discussions focused on building harmonized and interoperable EV charging ecosystems that are capable of supporting future mobility requirements.

The program featured updates on policy frameworks and standards, alongside strategic industry perspectives. Technical sessions covered critical areas such as megawatt charging systems, vehicle-to-grid integration, bidirectional charging technologies, and wireless power transfer.

Participants also visited EV and smart grid testing facilities at the Joint Research Centre to gain insights into advanced testing and validation processes.

Leaders Highlight Importance of Strategic Cooperation

Dr. Rakesh Kaur, Adviser and Scientist G at the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, highlighted the importance of India-EU cooperation in establishing trusted and interoperable charging ecosystems to support clean mobility.

Nienke Buisman, Head of Unit for International Cooperation at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission, and Dr. Christian Thiel, Head of Unit at the Joint Research Centre, emphasized the need for deeper collaboration in research, innovation, standards, and testing.

They underscored that strengthened India-EU engagement will play a critical role in enabling sustainable and connected mobility systems in the coming years.
