Adani Group Chairman Inspects Godda and Pirpainti Ultra-Supercritical Power Projects
Ranchi, February 22: Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, on Sunday reviewed major power infrastructure projects in Jharkhand and Bihar involving investments of over ₹40,000 crore, underlining the conglomerate’s growing footprint in eastern India. The visit covered key thermal power assets in Godda, Jharkhand, and Pirpainti near Bhagalpur in Bihar, both based on ultra-supercritical technology.
Godda Power Plant Supplies Electricity to Bangladesh
At Godda in Jharkhand, Adani inspected the 1,600 megawatt ultra-supercritical thermal power plant developed with an investment exceeding ₹16,000 crore.According to a company spokesperson, the plant supplies electricity exclusively to Bangladesh under a long-term agreement, giving the project cross-border economic significance.
The facility has reportedly generated thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and contributed to improved rail connectivity in the region. During his visit, Adani interacted with engineers, technicians, and frontline workers at the site. He also met tribal women from nearby communities in the tribal-dominated district.
₹27,000 Crore Pirpainti Project to Support Bihar’s Rising Power Demand
In neighbouring Bihar, Adani reviewed progress on the group’s proposed 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical power project at Pirpainti near Bhagalpur. The project involves an investment of over ₹27,000 crore and is expected to be commissioned within the next four to five years. The upcoming plant aims to support growing industrial and urban electricity demand in Bihar.
Adani Power, the country’s largest private sector thermal power generator, received a Letter of Award in August last year from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd for a 25-year long-term electricity procurement arrangement.
Strengthening Infrastructure Presence in Eastern India
With the Godda and Pirpainti projects, the Adani Group positions itself among the largest private sector infrastructure investors in Jharkhand and Bihar. These states have historically attracted limited large-scale industrial capital despite possessing abundant natural resources, officials said. The investments are expected to enhance power availability and strengthen infrastructure in the region.
Visit to Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar
Earlier in the day, Adani paid obeisance at the Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar district. He arrived at the temple town under tight security and proceeded to the sanctum sanctorum to perform rituals at the jyotirlinga. A team of priests assisted him with offerings of bel leaves, sacred water, and chanting of Vedic mantras.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Adani said he prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the nation.
“It was a long-standing desire to pray at Babadham,” he said.
Baidyanath Dham is among the most significant pilgrimage destinations in eastern India and draws lakhs of devotees, particularly during the holy month of Shravan.
