
Coal India Limited Forms Joint Venture for Power Generation
Kolkata – Coal India Limited (CIL) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) have established a joint venture company, DVC CIL Power Private Limited, according to a filing dated March 27, 2026. The incorporation was confirmed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and assigned Corporate Identification Number (CIN) U35102WB2026PTC287644.The new entity’s formation follows a letter dated November 7, 2025, regarding the proposed joint venture.
DVC CIL Power Private Limited will focus on several key areas within the energy sector, including:
- Power Generation & Allied Businesses: This includes planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of power projects utilizing various energy sources.
- Power Transmission & Distribution: The company will establish, acquire, and operate power systems, including substations and transmission networks.
- Utilization of Power Plant Byproducts: Processing, manufacturing, and selling byproducts such as fly ash.
Coal India Limited and Damodar Valley Corporation each hold a 50% stake in the joint venture, with each entity contributing 50,000 equity shares valued at ₹ 10 each. The initial capital investment includes a cash consideration of ₹ 3,132.96 crore representing 30% equity, alongside 70% debt.
The incorporation required approvals from DIPAM and the Ministry of Coal.
