BYD Unveils Blade Battery 2.0 With 1,000 km Range and Five Minute Flash Charging
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced its next generation Blade Battery 2.0, a new battery technology designed to deliver more than 1,000 kilometers of driving range, ultra fast charging capability, and enhanced safety performance. The company said the battery marks a major advancement in electric vehicle technology and will power its upcoming premium electric models.
Driving Range Crosses 1,000 Kilometers
According to BYD, the Blade Battery 2.0 can provide a driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers under the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).This represents a significant upgrade from the first generation Blade Battery, which typically offered a range of about 600 kilometers under similar testing conditions.
The improved range is made possible through higher energy density technology, which enables electric vehicles to store more power within the battery pack.
BYD chairman and CEO Wang Chuanfu said the new technology has been developed to support the next generation of electric mobility.
“The battery uses higher energy density technology, enabling longer driving ranges for future electric vehicles,” he said.
Five Minute Flash Charging Technology
One of the key highlights of the Blade Battery 2.0 is its ultra fast flash charging system.BYD stated that the battery can charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in just five minutes, significantly reducing charging times compared with current EV technologies.
Under normal conditions, the battery can also charge from 10 percent to 97 percent in about nine minutes, according to the company.
Vehicles equipped with the Blade Battery 2.0 are expected to recharge 30 percent to 50 percent faster than most existing electric vehicles.
Wang explained that charging the battery to 97 percent is recommended, allowing the remaining battery capacity to be recovered through regenerative braking while driving.
Designed for Extreme Weather Performance
The Blade Battery 2.0 is also engineered to operate efficiently in harsh weather conditions.BYD said that even after being exposed to temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, the battery can recharge from 20 percent to 97 percent in around 12 minutes.
According to Wang, the battery system has been optimized to maintain high charging speeds even in extremely cold environments.
Enhanced Safety Standards
Safety remains a core element of BYD’s Blade Battery design. The company said the new battery has successfully passed multiple rigorous safety tests, including nail penetration tests and bottom impact tests.
BYD added that the battery meets safety standards that exceed China’s latest national requirements.
First Vehicle to Feature the New Battery
The Yangwang U7, a luxury electric sedan from BYD’s premium brand Yangwang, will be the first vehicle to feature the Blade Battery 2.0.According to product director Zheng Yu, the sedan will deliver a pure electric range of around 1,006 kilometers under CLTC conditions when equipped with a 150 kWh battery pack.
The launch of Blade Battery 2.0 signals BYD’s push to advance electric vehicle performance through longer driving ranges, faster charging capability, and enhanced battery safety.
