
Bharti Airtel Reaches 650-Million Customer Milestone, Ranked Second Globally
New Delhi, April 2, 2026 - Bharti Airtel, a leading telecommunications service provider and the world’s second largest telecom operator by customer base, has achieved a milestone of 650 million customers. According to GSMA Intelligence, Bharti Airtel holds the second position globally in mobile customer base, with operations spanning India and Africa.Executive Vice Chairman, Gopal Vittal, stated that the company is committed to serving customers and investing in technology to provide connectivity and a safe network.
Airtel's global ranking is supported by its operations in India and Africa, alongside a growing portfolio of digital services and infrastructure capabilities.
Key highlights across regions include:
- India: Over 368 million mobile customers are served. Airtel was the first to launch 5G Plus services, which now anchor a converged ecosystem including Xstream AirFiber (FWA) and an integrated IPTV service. Airtel serves over 13 million homes with high-speed internet services and over 15 million through its Digital TV offering. Airtel Business offers mission-critical solutions to enterprise customers, powered by over 400,000 route kms of subsea fiber and Nxtra’s green data centers. Airtel has recently entered the Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) space, leveraging data insights to offer personalized credit and financial products through the Airtel app.
- Airtel Africa: With a customer base of over 179 million across 14 countries, Airtel Africa provides mobile voice, high-speed data, and international roaming services. Airtel Money, a mobile financial platform, serves over 52 million customers and drives financial inclusion.
- Global Space & Connectivity: Airtel has partnered with Eutelsat OneWeb and SpaceX to utilize Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for high-speed broadband in remote areas.
