
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd Appoints Sanjay Khanna as Chairman & Managing Director
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd announced that Shri Sanjay Khanna, currently serving as Director (Refineries), has been appointed as the Chairman & Managing Director (C&MD) of the company. This assumption of charge as C&MD is effective from April 9, 2026.The appointment, confirmed via a letter dated April 9, 2026, from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), is effective from April 9, 2026, and will continue until his superannuation date of May 31, 2029, or until such time as further orders dictate.
Shri Sanjay Khanna initially served as Director (Refineries) starting February 22, 2022, and had also been holding the additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director since May 1, 2025.
Academically, Shri Sanjay Khanna holds a Chemical Engineering degree from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, and a Postgraduate degree in Finance Management from Mumbai University. He brings over three decades of experience in refinery operations and technical services to the role. His career highlights include anchoring several prestigious projects for setting up new process units in Refineries at Mumbai, Kochi, and Numaligarh. Before his role as Director (Refineries), he headed both the Kochi and Mumbai Refineries of BPCL.
As Executive Director of the Kochi Refinery, he was instrumental in commissioning BPCL's first 'Niche Petrochemical' project, the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP), successfully navigating pandemic-related challenges. Under his leadership, BPCL has set a goal to invest Rs.75,000 Crore over the next five years. This planned investment includes the single largest commitment for the company, the Bina Petrochemical and Refinery Expansion Project (BPREP) at Bina, Madhya Pradesh, with a value of Rs.50,000 Crore.
In addition to his role at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Shri Sanjay Khanna also serves as a Director on the Boards of Bharat PetroResources Limited, Petronet LNG Limited, and Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited. Furthermore, he currently holds the position of Chairperson for the 'Technical Committee for Petroleum Refineries' under MoP&NG.
The company noted that Shri Sanjay Khanna is not debarred from holding the office of director by any SEBI Order or order of any other authority. Regarding his interest in the company, he holds 15,050 shares of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
