
Kempegowda International Airport Handles 2,700 Tonnes of Roses in Record Valentine Season
Bengaluru, February 17: As global demand for fresh roses surged during the Valentine’s season, Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru emerged as a key export hub, shipping nearly 60 million rose stems weighing over 2,700 tonnes to 26 international destinations.Operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited, the airport also facilitated shipments to 47 domestic destinations, reinforcing its role in India’s perishable cargo ecosystem.
Strong Year on Year Growth in Rose Exports
The Valentine’s surge translated into robust growth numbers for the airport. Rose stem volumes increased by 38 percent year on year, while tonnage jumped by 64 percent. The performance further strengthens Bengaluru Airport’s standing as India’s leading gateway for perishable exports for the fifth consecutive year.International shipments remained steady at 305 metric tonnes. Singapore emerged as the leading overseas destination for Bengaluru’s roses, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, New York, and Kuwait.
This season also marked the addition of new international destinations including Los Angeles, London Gatwick, Dallas Fort Worth, Toronto, and Orlando.
Domestic Rose Shipments Surge 79 Percent
On the domestic front, the airport transported 2,402 metric tonnes of roses, registering a 79 percent year on year increase in tonnage. Delhi and Kolkata continued to drive demand, while Guwahati, Mumbai, and Jaipur maintained strong throughput levels.Notably, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Lucknow recorded more than 150 percent growth compared to the previous Valentine’s season, reflecting expanding demand across key urban centers.

The strong export momentum has been supported by expanded cargo infrastructure at BLR Airport. The facility’s advanced cold chain systems, equipped with real time tracking and temperature control technologies, help maintain freshness throughout storage, handling, and transportation.According to airport officials, the state of the art facilities proactively manage temperature fluctuations to ensure seamless movement of perishable consignments, enabling Bengaluru to meet peak seasonal demand efficiently.
With rising global and domestic orders during the Valentine’s season, Bengaluru Airport continues to solidify its position as a major logistics hub for floral exports.
