Ashok Leyland Ltd. announced a planned investment of up to GBP 30 million (approximately ₹375 Crores) in its subsidiary, Optare Plc. U.K., the transaction is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.Optare Plc. U.K., incorporated on January 23, 2008, is involved in the manufacture and sale of buses and commercial vehicles. The company's consolidated revenue as of March 31, 2025, was ₹1,232.59 Crores. Optare Plc. is the holding company for the Electric Vehicle initiatives of the company, including Switch Mobility Limited, U.K. and Switch Mobility Automotive Limited.
Hinduja Automotive Limited, a promoter of Ashok Leyland, holds 6.52% of the share capital of Optare Plc. The investment is being undertaken based on a valuation report from an independent valuer.
The investment will be made in cash and is intended towards repayment of loan and other business requirements.
The current shareholding of Ashok Leyland in Optare Plc. is 93%, which will increase to 93.28% post the new allotment.
