AMD and Meta Announce Multi Year AI Infrastructure Partnership, Up to 6 Gigawatts of Instinct GPUs Planned

AMD to Deploy Up to 6 Gigawatts of Instinct GPUs for Meta’s Expanding AI Operations​

New Delhi, February 24: Advanced Micro Devices and Meta Platforms have announced a major multi year partnership to build the next generation of artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking a significant expansion of their existing strategic collaboration.

Under the agreement, AMD will deploy up to six gigawatts of its AMD Instinct GPUs to power Meta’s growing AI operations. The companies said the deal aligns their roadmaps across silicon, systems, and software, with the objective of delivering AI platforms specifically tailored to Meta’s large scale workloads.

First Phase to Begin in Second Half of 2026​

The initial phase of deployment will involve a custom AMD Instinct GPU built on the MI450 architecture. Shipments for the first one gigawatt deployment are expected to commence in the second half of 2026.

The systems will also integrate 6th Generation AMD EPYC CPUs, codenamed Venice, and will operate on AMD’s ROCm software platform. The infrastructure will be based on the AMD Helios rack scale architecture, which was jointly developed by AMD and Meta through the Open Compute Project to enable scalable AI infrastructure.

Expanding Collaboration Across GPUs and CPUs​

In addition to GPUs, the partnership is being expanded around AMD EPYC processors. Meta has already deployed millions of EPYC CPUs and substantial volumes of AMD Instinct MI300 and MI350 series GPUs across its global data centers.

As AI systems become more complex, CPUs play a critical role in managing and orchestrating workloads alongside GPUs. Meta will serve as a lead customer for AMD’s upcoming 6th Gen EPYC processors, including Venice and Verano, which are designed to deliver strong performance with improved cost and energy efficiency.

Performance Based Warrant for Up to 160 Million Shares​

As part of the agreement, AMD has issued Meta a performance based warrant for up to 160 million shares of AMD common stock. The shares will vest in stages based on shipment milestones, beginning with the first one gigawatt deployment and scaling as purchases expand toward six gigawatts.

The vesting structure is also linked to stock price targets as well as specific technical and commercial milestones.

Dr Lisa Su, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of AMD, said the collaboration is focused on delivering high performance and energy efficient infrastructure customized for Meta’s needs.

Meta Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said the long term partnership will support the deployment of more efficient AI compute systems and help diversify Meta’s computing infrastructure. He added that AMD is expected to remain a key partner as Meta continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence.

Jean Hu, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at AMD, stated that the agreement is expected to drive significant multi year revenue growth and strengthen the company’s long term financial performance.
